Dr. Steve Van Drew was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army upon graduation from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a BS in Engineering.
Following assignments at Ft. Carson, CO and West Germany he attended the Colorado School of Mines where he received a master’s and PhD in Mineral Economics/Operations Research.
Steve then returned to West Point as a faculty member in the Engineering Department, followed by an assignment at the Army Logistics Management College at Ft. Lee, VA.
He also taught evening graduate courses in management and operations research for nearly 20 years as an adjunct professor for the Florida Institute of Technology.
From 2001 until middle 2019, Steve was a Sr. operations research analyst for the Naval Air Systems Command. His primary focus at NAVAIR was ensuring that cost estimates for naval aviation systems addressed risk and uncertainty.
In “retirement” Steve continues to support NAVAIR part-time with cost risk analysis training, and is an at-risk consultant and trainer for Palisade.
Steve is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia and has been active in several professional organizations including: the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (InfORMS); the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IISE); and the International Cost Estimating and Analysis Association (ICEAA).
