PMI Tulsa Awards Local Teacher of the Year
PMI Tulsa is committed to empowering youth to realize their potential and transform lives through project management. This year, our Chapter wants to support and celebrate those individuals who are doing this work on a daily basis. That's why we partnered with Tulsa Regional Stem Alliance and Union Public Schools to award an outstanding teacher.
Mrs. Peterson is the 2021 Union Teacher of the Year, and was awarded $1,275 from our fundraising efforts to show appreciation for her work inspiring future project leaders.
- Mrs. Peterson has been in education for twelve years at the collegiate and secondary levels. She currently teaches PreCalculus and AP Calculus AB at Union High School, and loves spending her days teaching and learning from her students. At the forefront of her education philosophy is listening to stories. She is passionate about making critical thinking, problem solving, and advanced mathematics, exciting, applicable, and accessible through the foundation of relationships. A proud immigrant of Swedish-Iranian descent, she considers her family—husband Brett and son Jonas—to be her greatest accomplishment.
PMI and PMI Tulsa recognize that STEM activities encourage students to pursue career paths that include project management or intersect with project management (e.g. engineers, developers, etc.). Teachers are on the front lines of the effort to promote and teach STEM to our community youth. They've undergone unprecedented levels of stress and uncertainty over the last year. Our Chapter would like to recognize Mrs. Peterson, whose values and character encourages Tulsa youth to reach for the stars.
